Shri Ramakrishna Vidyarthi Mandir (Hostel)

History

  • The Ashrama was already conducting a Students’ Home for about 20 poor and meritorious students of Saurashtra. In addition to this special coaching classes were held for about 60 students studying in the matriculation class on a regular basis, in which teachers of Saurashtra High School, Agency High School and Rajkumar College offered their free services.
  • With a View to provide man-making education as envisaged by Swami Vivekananda an English medium residential school ‘Vivekananda Gurukul” was started in June 1939. Shri Mafatlal Gagalbhai of Gurukul. As the number of students increased, the need was felt for a larger building and with the help of the contribution received from Maharaja Saheb Lukhdhirji of Morvi, a bigger hall was constructed and inaugurated in 1940 Since November 1945 the Gurukul was opened to day-scholars also and the number of students studying in that year were about 90, including 60 residential students.
  • New Hostel

To provide accommodation for outstation students studying in Rajkot and to instil in them the character-building teachings of Swami Vivekananda, we have a hostel – Vidyarthi Mandir since 1939 which can accommodate about 40 boys. Poor and eligible students are given almost free accommodation.
