Vivekananda Children Library & Development Centre
Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot has been working for years in the field of value education for children and youth through educational seminars, career guidance sessions, sanskar-shibirs & competitions etc. to make them aware of the great spiritual and cultural heritage of our motherland, India.
In today’s competitive world, a general lack of values like respect for the elders, pride for one’s own culture, self-confidence to face setbacks in life, a sense of cooperation among peer groups and a spirit of dedicated service are getting eroded slowly from our children.
The children of today are the citizens of tomorrow. Swami Vivekananda dreamt of a new India – strong, confident and benevolent. Keeping in view the burning need of teaching values to the children during their childhood itself, the Children’s Library provides latest cultural and value educational facilities to complement the purely academic nature of education available in the schools.
Mother is the first teacher of her child. To enrich this phenomena, the parents are encouraged to spend their time with their children in book-reading, games as well as various activities of the Children Library.
The salient features of the ‘Children’s Library’ are as follows:
1) Value educational audio and video CDs as well as computer facility.
2) Books on character-building, nature, popular science, etc.
3) Educational Toys Section.
4) Special educational, cultural and motivational film shows.
5) Activity sessions such as story – telling, handicraft learning, prayer and bhajans, concentration-games, yogasanas etc.
6) Special celebrations for children during festivals like Janmashtami, Navaratri, Diwali, etc. to make them aware of their cultural roots as well as fesivals like Christmas to sow the seeds of inter-religious harmony.
7) Meeting with eminent personalities of art, culture and sports.
Computer courses (Basic Computer course, Advance Computer course and Tally classes) are offered for both students and professionals at nominal rates and free of charge for needy and poor students.
