Swami Vivekananda wanted man-making, character-building education. Character can be built by imbibing positive values. A personality can be shaped best if it can be shaped when the person is young.
So, Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot organized a value-oriented summer camp called ‘MA SARADA SANSKAR SHIBIR’ for children of the age of 8 -13 years from 5 May, 2008 to 31 May, 2008.The motive of the camp was to put the seed of the eternal values of Indian Culture in the young minds of the children. About 130 children took part in the camp.
Seeing the interest of the children and keeping in mind the repeated requests of the guardians to continue the shibir, the Ashrama decided to extend the shibir for 3 more months. The shibir was held on every Sunday morning from 8.30- 10.30 a.m. Approximately, 90 students enrolled for this session. On average, 60 students attended the shibir every Sunday morning. |
The activities of the camp were as follows:
- Everyday the camp started with prayer, meditation and bhajans.
- Moral and inspirational stories were told to the children.
- Children were taught Suryanamaskar & Yogasanas.
- They were taught various skills of drawing, painting and easy handicraft.
- Children were introduced to classical music.
- They were taught the need of exercise and healthy food-habits.
- Children were taught the spirit of service and community feeling.
