‘Education, education,
education alone! Travelling through many cities of Europe and
observing in them the comforts and education of even the poor
people, there was brought to my mind the state of our own people,
and I used to shed tears. What made the difference?
Education was the answer I got.' |

The Ashrama has a well-furnished
library and free reading room for the benefit of the local
public. A beautifully designed Children's Section has been
the new addition. The library was first started in 1927. On
14th October 1955 Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, Vice-President of
India, inaugurated the new library building where it stands
today. However, on 20th November 1992, the library became
a part of the newly built "Swami Vivekananda Paribhraman
Shatabdi Bhavan", which was formally inaugurated by Srimat

| Swami Vivekananda wanted the light
of value-based education based on the ideas of character-building
and man-making to reach every nook and corner of the
country. Travelling through the length and breadth of
India, he saw the utter disgraceful condition of our
motherland being fallen from Her glorious past. He found
that Education was the solution to the problem.
Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot tries to follow the
footsteps of Swami Vivekananda and fulfill His dream
through its Mobile Library Van by going to the remote
areas of Gujarat, especially the interior villages.
The Van is well equipped to display more than 200 books,
cassettes, posters, photographs etc. on Sri Ramakrisha,
Ma Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and other Saints of
India.
After its inception in 2004, the van has visited many
schools, colleges, and public spaces, carrying the life-giving
message of Eternal India as far as the remote villages
of Kutch, almost 250 kms from the Ashrama.
The mobile library is run under the guidance and supervision
of the Monks of the Ashrama with the assistance of devotees
and volunteers. |
