Temple
of Sri Ramakrishna
At that time of his birth in 1836, there was a shade, meant
for the husking machine and an oven for boiling paddy. Just
on the spot of his birth, the altar of the present temple
has been constructed. |

Budhui-moral,
Bhutir-khal
To the east of the village Kamarpukur, lies Budhui-moral and
Bhutir-khal is located just to the north-west of Sri Ramakrishna’s
house. He used to meditate in these lonely and quite cremation
grounds. |

Sitanath
Pyne’s House, Spot where Sri Ramakrishna went in to
an ecstatic trace
Gadadhar used to go there often in his boyhood. Pyne’s
family used to observe ‘Shivaratri’ with fast,
keep vigil and whole night worship of Shiva. Once in the course
of Village drama, boy Gadadhar dressed in the garb of Lord
Shiva plunged in to an ecstatic trance. |

Manik
Raja’s house at present condition
Manik Chandra Bandyopadhyaya of Bhursubo village was known
as ‘Manik Raja’. Ramjay, his brother, was so charmed
and expressed to Khudiram : ‘Friend, this son of yours
is not an ordinary child. It seems to me that he possesses
godly qualities in a marked degree.’ To the west of
Bhutir-Khal Manik Raja planted an extensive mango grove for
the public. This garden became the playground of Sri Ramakrishna
and his friends in his boyhood. They would run away from school
to this secluded place and engaged themselves in dramas. |

Chinu
Shankhari’s birth-place
Chinu or Srinivas was a maker of shell-bracelets. His relations
with the boy Gadadhar were very sweet. With a strong faith
that Gadadhar was a divine being he secretly worshipped him
with flowers and sweets as the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Later Sri Ramakrishna often referred to his deep-seated devotion
and love. |

Gopeswar
Shiva Temple
This temple is situated to the east of Sri Ramakrishna’s
house. Hearing about the madness of Gadadhar during his ecstatic
moods at Dakshineswar, his mother, practiced hard penances
to get divine grace for cure of her son. She heard a voice
directing her to do likewise before the Shiva of Mukundapur. |

Shiva Temple
It is situated to the south-west of Sri Ramakrishna’s
birth place. On being directed by Gopeswar Shiva, Gadadhar’s
mother went to this temple and lay there without food and
drink where she heard a divine voice saying, ‘Don’t
fear, you son is not mad; he has become like this because
of divine intoxication.’ It is said that from that time
onward many people have got their prayers fulfilled. |

Haldarpukur
On the northern side of Yogi’s Shiva temple is a small
lake called Haldarpukur. Many sweet memories of the boyhood
days of Sri Ramakrishna center around this lake. |

The
Temple of Sri Raghuvira
It was previously a small hut facing the east. The present
temple has been constructed exactly on the same spot with
the same dimensions. Here Saligrama of Raghuvira, the earthen
Jar representing Goddess Sitala, the Rameshwar Shiva-linga,
an image of Gopala and Saligrama of Narayana are worshipped
everyday. |

It is the ancestral western hut facing the south. At present
it is used as a part of shrine of Sri Ramakrishna. |

mango tree
It stands to the east of the parlour of Sri Ramakrishna and
still yields fruits. Sri Ramakrishna himself planted this
tree. |

Yogi’s
Shiva Temple
It is situated to the north of the residence of Sri Ramakrishna.
In front of this temple his mother Chandramani Devi had a
divine vision in which she saw a celestial light coming from
the image of Shiva, filled the temple and swiftly enter her
body. When regained consciousness, she felt that she had conceived.
As a result, Sri Ramakrishna was born. |

The
Primary School of Laha’s
The school was held in the spacious Natmandir in front of
the Laha’s house. Gadadhar joined this school at the
age of five. In short time he learnt to read and write. He
had a dislike for arithmetic. Though he made no appreciable
progress in his studies, his hand-writing was good. |

Dhani
Kamarini’s Birth place and temple
It is situated to the south-east of Sri Ramakrishna’s
house. Dhani Kamarini, a blacksmith woman, served Gadadhar
from his childhood. During his sacred thread ceremony, inspite
of elders’ objections, as Dhani belongs to a lower caste,
Gadadhar honoured her by accepting first alms and thus kept
his promise. Recently, a small temple has been built up on
this site, and an oil-painting of Dhani with the child Gadadhar
in her lap has been placed there. |
